Create or Perish.
Only if your immortal do you have unlimited time… Oh do I have a gift for overstating the obvious?
Then let’s get at the business of how to get those floodgates open.
This site isn’t even trying to actually sell you something. I mean you could take it to getting my private instruction if you demand it, but it isn’t easy to arrange and the things you really need to know may just be here for you anyway, if you seek with determination.
– You need tools to climb out of the ‘well’ that you probably have already fallen into (artistically, musically)
these tools are hard to just click and possess.
Music school graduates have a heavy moving van full of tools that few will utilize them all. Good on you if you can. You are probably getting your works into film and stage and wide spread media.
Which tools would a determined seeker need to be the most beneficial for getting along toward these great goals within fleeting time constraints?
Whoa! not that simple!
How can you hear the notes, scales and chords if you have to start at the very beginning?
Seekers, please keep looking in here, I will get to that hidden key and how to use it.
Things Could be a lot easier if only…
If only someone who’s been there before would, could just tell me…
Maybe no-ones talking because the logical truth came to them at great expense and time and they just don’t feel like giving it away free, and possibly turning the next cat to come along, into someone who will steal their diner and their date…
Yeah, it feels like that, but you know what?
It’s really not true, that breed of cat simply has a bad attitude and probably not the ARTIST’s MINDSET to achieve anything great anyway.
THE ZEN DILEMMA
Really, music is a sacred art. Do it for money and it can easily turn on you. Hans Zimmer and Randy Newman have paid their dues to be at the top. But the top of what? High salary for big movie music. Nice! True, but can they put a band on stage and rock out for 40 ecstatic minutes and have a total blast and head home with gas money and an experience that is priceless? Well, that wouldn’t be any easier for them that it would for you.
But, maybe the prep work and songwriting would be easier because of their strong creative muscles, BUT… if they’re not all that hungry for it anyway, it might not be “in the pocket” –
so see? It’s not always the money. As disturbing as that may be to read “online”. Lol!
“You believe your immortal”
Don Juan told Carlos when giving him a bag a groceries and a carton of cigarettes. “What am I going to do with these (cigarettes)?” he asked Carlos – and Don Juan went on to thoughtfully berate Carlos for not truly getting real about his mortal, physical life in this world.
It’s all about energy. Nobody has so much energy that they can just give away to some corporate conglomerate or worse – a addictive substance cartel (drug), the distinction between them is blurry.
The creative life you have as a functioning member of society is limited enough already.
Keep in mind- making art is the only way left to “stick it to the man”. (Terrance McKenna)
You do at least a little something everyday to move closer to producing your art. Whatever art it is – but since this is a music article – Music!
“Stick it to the man.”
What it means. Who said “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!” right? The “man” is the lame status quo we are all supposed to quietly accept. Go to your cubicle with your safe business casual outfit and work those reports out of it. Next week a robot will be doing your job.
…BUT THE ROBOT WON’T BE CREATING ART LIKE YOURS.
no, it won’t. If the robot makes any art at all, it will be by proxy. And no matter how good it is, it will still suck.
Your song your writing on the guitar just has to please you. If you like it, some people will too.
Not everyone will like it.
Some people love Neil Young, some can’t stand his music. That’s life.
Just keep building moments of music.
Where to start?
If for lack of of every reason to start – you can learn about your pallet of colors (Music Theory)
That’s why this website exists.
I went through the harmony classes in college and it was a steep mountain to climb. For most rock and indie songwriters it didn’t have to be so hard as making a chord analyses of Tristan und Isolde in four keys at once.
This can go a lot faster and with clear understanding of the elements of harmony. You may know them already, nut are looking for my ‘take’ on it. I hope so because I have developed a way to grasp the meaning of the 12 keys of music and their relations. Please explore this site and I may be able to give you a few lessons via skype –
(more to follow in the near future – I can’t thousands of you, only few, but I’m working on some videos so you can learn this stuff. It’s important!)
